Chargers Hold Off IVC for 78–76 Victory
Cypress Defeat IVC in Close Battle
CYPRESS, CA — The Cypress College women's basketball team earned a hard-fought 54–47 victory over Irvine Valley College on Friday night, using strong defense and second-chance opportunities to secure the win at home.
Cypress set the tone early, jumping out to a 16–10 lead after the first quarter and maintaining control through the first half. Irvine Valley kept the pressure on throughout the game, but the Chargers answered with timely stops and key baskets, outscoring the Lasers 15–11 in the fourth quarter to seal the win.
The Chargers' effort on the glass proved to be a difference-maker, as Cypress recorded 11 offensive rebounds and converted them into 17 second-chance points. Cypress also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 13 points off Irvine Valley miscues.
Mariah Henderson led all scorers with 21 points, shooting 8-for-15 from the field. Henderson consistently attacked the basket and knocked down timely shots to keep Cypress ahead. Christaesha Jackson posted a strong double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, anchoring the Chargers inside while adding two blocks and two steals on the defensive end. Frida Cadena-Hernandez provided an important spark off the bench, finishing with 6 points on efficient shooting, including a three-pointer, and adding two assists in limited minutes.
