Cypress Opens Season with 82–73 Win Over Chaffey
Big rebounding numbers by the Chargers leads to the win.
CYPRESS, CA – Cypress College women's basketball tipped off the 2025–26 season with an 82–73 home victory over Chaffey on Tuesday night, powered by a standout performance from sophomore guard Mariah Henderson. She led all scorers with 28 points and nine rebounds.
The Chargers came out strong, taking a 40–35 lead into halftime after shooting an efficient 51.6% from the field for the game. Henderson was joined in double figures by Christaesha Jackson and Alyssa Norada, who each added 14 and 13 points, respectively. Marina Interiano provided a big boost in the paint with 13 points and eight rebounds, while Norada led the team with seven assists.
Cypress controlled the interior, outscoring Chaffey 42–24 in the paint and 14–6 in second-chance points. The Chargers' balance and unselfish play proved key, with 16 team assists on 32 made field goals.
The victory gives Cypress a 1–0 start to the season. The Chargers will look to carry their momentum into their tournament weekend.
