Chargers Defeat District Rivals, Fullerton
Cypress women's basketball pulls away late to defeat Fullerton, 63-48
CYPRESS, CA - The Chargers (15-4, 2-1 OEC) put together a balanced offensive effort and stifling defense to earn a 63–48 victory over the Fullerton Hornets (10-10, 2-2 OEC) on Friday night at Cypress College.
Cypress controlled the tempo early and never trailed, taking a 17-10 lead after the first quarter and carrying a 33-25 advantage into halftime. Cypress continued to apply pressure defensively in the second half, holding Fullerton to just 23 points over the final two quarters to secure the home win.
Mariah Henderson led all scorers with 17 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc to pace the Chargers. Marina Leiva followed with 14 points and two three-pointers, while Marina Interiano added a strong all-around performance with 12 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.
Cypress shot 40.3 percent from the field and outrebounded Fullerton 36–32, while forcing 15 turnovers that helped limit Fullerton's offensive rhythm. Alyssa Norada contributed eight points and a team-high six assists off the bench, and Christaesha Jackson chipped in eight points and six rebounds.
Defensively, the Chargers held Fullerton to 31.0 percent shooting from the floor and just 5-of-18 from three-point range.
