Chargers Sweep Fullerton
Cypress Defeats Hornets in Straight Sets
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team put on a dominant all-around performance to sweep district-rival Fullerton College, 3–0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-19), in Wednesday night's Orange Empire Conference matchup.
The Chargers set the tone early behind sharp hitting and hustle plays in the opening set. Audrey Johnson sparked the offense with a pair of early kills, while Amanda Kalpakoff's diving save led Addison Riddle scoring. Key blocks from Adaeze Handy and a closing service ace from Genesis Castolo secured the 25-18 first-set victory.
Fullerton jumped ahead in the second set, but Cypress clawed back from a five-point deficit. Riddle's timely kills and an ace from Audrey Perez ignited the rally, giving the Chargers their first lead at 8-7. Kalpakoff's crafty tap shots and another Riddle ace helped Cypress pull away for a convincing 25-14 win.
The Chargers kept their foot on the gas in the third. Kalpakoff served three aces in four attempts to open a quick lead, while Faith Martin and Kaylin Hanley delivered key kills. Late in the set, strong defensive stands, highlighted by a double block from Lauren Carrillo and Hanley and back-to-back digs from Lola Sanchez, set up Riddle's final kill and a match-clinching 25-19 finish.
UP NEXT: The Chargers are set to match up against the Santa Ana Dons at home on Friday, September 26th at 6pm.
