Cypress Falls Short in Four Sets Against Mt. San Jacinto
Cypress competes until the end
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team battled hard against Mt. San Jacinto but ultimately came up short, falling in four sets (26-28, 23-25, 25-17, 26-28) in an intense matchup on Tuesday night.
The Chargers came out strong in the opening set, with Amanda Kalpakoff and Audrey Perez fueling an early lead through kills and service aces. Cypress pushed the set into extra points, highlighted by Perez's diving save that gave the Chargers a late advantage, but Mt. San Jacinto capitalized on back-to-back points to steal the frame, 28-26.
In the second set, Addison Riddle, Adaeze Handy, and Keilyn Flores kept the Chargers within striking distance with key kills and blocks. Perez and Handy each delivered service aces down the stretch, tying the set at 23, but once again Cypress narrowly fell, 25-23.
The Chargers refused to back down in the third set. Behind dominant serving from Handy and a strong all-around performance from Riddle, Cypress built momentum and pulled away late. Faith Martin added a clutch kill, and the Chargers sealed the set 25-17 to stay alive.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth thriller. Riddle's run of three straight service aces gave Cypress an early cushion, and big defensive plays from Perez and Flores helped extend the lead. Mt. San Jacinto rallied late, but Cypress fought back with Martin and Riddle delivering critical points to tie the set multiple times. Despite the Chargers' resilience, Mt. San Jacinto closed it out 28-26 to secure the win.
Riddle, Kalpakoff, and Martin led the Chargers offensively, while Perez's defense and serving kept Cypress in contention throughout the match. Handy anchored the front line with timely blocks and aces.
