Cypress Secures Four-Set Victory Over Riverside
The Chargers stay resilient in their "Pink-Out" game to beat the Riverside Tigers
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College women's volleyball team (7-9, 4-3 OEC) earned a strong conference win over Riverside City College (5-13, 3-4 OEC) on Wednesday night, defeating the Tigers in four sets (25-20, 25-20, 23-25, 25-22).
The Chargers came out sharp in the opening set with strong offensive balance. Addison Riddle opened with a soft tap to even the score before adding a service ace to energize Cypress early. Amanda Kalpakoff and Adaeze Handy helped maintain momentum with key kills and a double block at the net, while Faith Martin added timely points down the stretch. A clean assist sequence from Martin to Handy sealed the first set, 25-20.
In the second set, Cypress' ball movement was on full display as setter Keilyn Flores consistently set up her teammates. Flores recorded multiple assists and a pair of service aces, helping Cypress take a commanding 13-6 lead. Handy, Kalpakoff, and Martin each contributed kills, and Lola Sanchez added an ace late in the set as Cypress closed out another 25-20 win.
Riverside responded in the third set, battling back to take a narrow 25-23 victory despite strong efforts from Riddle and Martin at the net. The Chargers regrouped and refocused in the fourth, sparked by a string of kills from Riddle and Martin. Key defensive plays from Livi Marks and Lauren Carrillo turned the momentum, and Riddle delivered a crucial service ace out of a timeout to put Cypress ahead late. Martin's dominant play continued, and Riddle closed out the match with a final kill to seal the 25-22 win.
Riddle led the offensive charge with several clutch kills and aces, while Flores ran a balanced attack with consistent setting and serving. Martin and Handy were strong at the net, combining for multiple kills and blocks throughout the match.
With the win, Cypress improves their conference standing to 4-3 and continues to build momentum heading into the second half of the season
