Chargers Softball Concludes Season in the 3C2A Regionals
Chargers fall to the Marauders in the first round of playoffs.
CYPRESS, CA - Chargers softball (27-15, 14-7 OEC) fell short in their 3C2A playoff matchup against the Antelope Valley Marauders (31-11, 11-1 WSC). They dropped the series 2 games to none.
Game 1
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress opened the 3C2A Regional Playoffs on Friday afternoon with a hard-fought battle against Antelope Valley, but the Chargers fell 7-3 at home in the opening game of the postseason series.
The Chargers struck first in the bottom of the first inning when Isabella Rodriguez reached and came around to score, giving Cypress an early 1-0 lead. Rodriguez finished the day scoring twice while also drawing two walks and collecting a hit.
Cypress answered the Marauders when Peyton Clark delivered one of her three hits on the day, helping trim the deficit to 4-2.
Clark led the Charger offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Alina Argueta added a double and an RBI of her own, while Madylyn Wynia also doubled and scored once. Hailey Rice chipped in with an RBI single as Cypress continued to battle throughout the afternoon.
Cypress added its final run in the sixth inning on Rice's RBI knock, but the Chargers were unable to complete the comeback as Antelope Valley's pitching staff closed out the final two innings.
Haley Tucker took the start in the circle for Cypress, tossing five innings with five strikeouts, while Mia Alvarez provided solid relief work, allowing just one run over the final two innings.
The Chargers totaled seven hits and five walks in the contest.
Game 2
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress College's postseason run came to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Chargers fell to Antelope Valley, 9-1, in six innings during the 3C2A Regional Playoffs.
The Chargers got on the board in the top of the second inning when Lynsey Arostigue led off with a single and later came around to score on an RBI single from Emily Olguin, giving Cypress an early 1-0 advantage. Olguin was a bright spot offensively, finishing a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with the team's lone RBI, while Arostigue added a hit and scored the Chargers' only run. Hailey Rice also contributed with a pinch-hit single as Cypress totaled four hits in the contest.
Haley Tucker got the start in the circle for Cypress and worked 3.2 innings, allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out two. Mia Alvarez came on in relief and threw 1.1 innings, surrendering four runs with one walk.
Cypress softball had 3 players named to the All-OEC First Team. The roster featured infielders Isabella Rodriguez and Lynsey Arostigue, as well as catcher Peyton Clark. They ended the season with a 27-15 overall record, winning 14 of their 21 conference games.
