Cypress Defeats LA Mission in 5 innings
Chargers hit an inside-the-park home run in 10-2 victory.
CYPRESS, CA – Cypress softball (15-7, 4-3 OEC) used a balanced offensive attack and a dominant finish in the circle to defeat LA Mission (10-17, 1-4 WSC), 10-2, in non-conference action on Wednesday afternoon.
Cypress got on the board in the second inning before adding another run in the third to take a 2-0 lead.
The Chargers collected 13 hits on the day, breaking the game open with a four-run fourth inning followed by another four-run surge in the fifth to secure the mercy rule victory.
Leading the charge was Isabella Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Lynsey Arostigue and Peyton Clark each drove in three runs to pace the lineup. Arostigue added a pair of hits, including a double, while Clark also recorded a multi-hit performance.
Laila Nunez hit an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the 5th to bring in two more runs. On the day, she hit 2-3 and scored two runs of her own.
Cypress continued to apply pressure on the basepaths, tallying multiple extra-base hits and capitalizing on defensive miscues by LA Mission, who committed four errors in the contest.
In the circle, Mia Alvarez got the start, allowing two runs on five hits over 3.1 innings while striking out two. Haley Tucker earned the win in relief, tossing 1.2 scoreless innings and holding LA Mission hitless to close out the game.
