Cypress Softball’s Amanda Fama Named Olympic Torch Bearer
Former state champion and now softball assistant coach Amanda Fama is named a Torch Bearer for the 2026 Winter Olympics.
FRIULI-VENEZIA GIULIA, IT - Cypress softball assistant coach Amanda Fama had the honor of serving as a Torch Bearer for the 2026 Winter Olympics. Fama was a former representative of Italy in the 2010 Olympic Games and was the first athlete from the Cypress College softball program to earn a spot in the Olympics. Some of her accolades include being a two-time European Champion, a three-time Cup Champion, and a three-time Italian League Champion.
Now in her second season as an assistant coach with Cypress College softball, Fama made an immediate impact in her first year on staff, helping lead the Chargers to the 3C2A State Tournament and the program's 26th Orange Empire Conference Title during the 2025 season.
She continued training for the torch ceremony while recovering from both a torn ACL and a torn meniscus. In order to participate in this renowned event, she postponed her knee surgery and rehabilitation schedule.
Her leg of the race took place on Saturday, January 24, 2026, with the torch traveling through Friuli-Venezia Giulia, an Italian region on the northeastern side of the country.
While competing for the Chargers, Fama played a key role in Cypress' 2010 State Championship run and helped secure three Orange Empire Conference titles. In 2017, she was inducted into the Cypress College Hall of Fame. Following her career at Cypress, she continued competing at Concordia University.
