Chargers Walk It Off in Thrilling Victory Over Mt. SAC
Cypress defeats Mt. San Antonio College, 6-5
CYPRESS, CA — Cypress College Softball delivered late-game drama on Friday afternoon, walking off Mt. San Antonio College in a 6-5 non-conference victory at home.
The contest was tightly contested from the opening inning, with both teams scoring once in the first. After Mt. SAC added two runs in the second, Cypress responded by pushing three runs across in the bottom half to take a 4-3 lead.
Alina Argueta sparked the offense with a 2-for-4 performance and two runs scored, while Isabella Rodriguez reached base twice and drove in a run. Charlize Callaghan provided a key extra-base hit, tripling and finishing with an RBI and a run scored. Hailey Rice made the most of her pinch-hit opportunity, delivering an RBI single to keep momentum on the Chargers' side.
Mt. SAC reclaimed the lead briefly behind a solo home run from Amanda Porterfield and timely extra-base hits, but Cypress continued to apply pressure. The Chargers drew six walks as a team and capitalized on three Mounties errors to stay within striking distance.
Being tied entering the bottom of the seventh, Cypress mounted its final rally. After working key at-bats and utilizing aggressive baserunning, including stolen bases from Lynsey Arostigue, Jayda Maldonado, and Laila Nunez, the Chargers pushed across two runs to secure the walk-off win.
In the circle, Haley Tucker scattered 10 hits over seven innings, allowing five runs (four earned) while striking out four and left multiple runners in scoring position to keep Cypress within reach.
