Cypress defeats Saddleback
CYPRESS, CA- The Cypress Chargers delivered a strong home performance Thursday night, defeating Saddleback College basketball 85–67 in their Black History Month Game at Cypress College. The evening celebrated culture, community, and excellence both on and off the court, while the Chargers backed the occasion with one of their most efficient offensive outings of the season.
Cypress set the tone early, taking a 40–36 lead into halftime before erupting offensively in the second half, shooting 64% from the field over the final 20 minutes. The Chargers finished the night at 52.6% overall shooting and knocked down 16 three-pointers, which proved to be the difference in pulling away late.
Leading the way was Zack Moritz, who scored a team-high 19 points while adding 4 rebounds and 4 assists in a steady all-around performance. His perimeter shooting and composure helped Cypress maintain momentum throughout the game.
Sharpshooting also came from Isaiah Valenzuela, who poured in 18 points on an impressive 6-for-10 shooting from beyond the arc. His outside accuracy stretched the defense encouraging key scoring runs in the second half.
Meanwhile, Jack Rivera delivered a standout perimeter performance, hitting 4-of-6 from three-point range to finish with 12 points, along with 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 3 steals. His shooting efficiency provided a major spark for the Chargers' offense.
