Chargers Heat Up From Deep In 84-64 Win Against Santiago Canyon
Cypress turns in an impressive shooting night.
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress College men's basketball (13-10, 4-5 OEC) delivered a strong conference performance Wednesday night, pulling away in the second half for an 84-64 victory over Santiago Canyon (17-6, 6-3 OEC) at home.
The Chargers set the tone early, taking a 34-27 lead into halftime before erupting offensively in the second half, where they shot over 60 percent from the field to secure the decisive win.
A major catalyst in the victory was Jack Rivera, who turned in an outstanding shooting night. Rivera poured in a game-high 34 points on 13-of-21 shooting, including an impressive 7-of-13 from beyond the arc, providing the spark that kept Cypress in control throughout the contest.
Zack Moritz also contributed offensively with 17 points and three three-pointers, while Michael Wright added 10 points and eight rebounds to support the Chargers' balanced effort. Off the bench, Lincoln Dean chipped in eight points and a team-high seven assists, helping facilitate the offense.
Cypress' perimeter shooting proved to be the difference, as the Chargers knocked down 17 three-pointers and shot nearly 45 percent from deep as a team. Defensively, they limited Santiago Canyon to just 35.3 percent shooting overall.
