Chantee Nguyen Makes History with Double Gold at State Championships
Freshman Chantee Nguyen delivered a record breaking performance at the 3C2A State Championships, earning two gold medals and State Swimmer of the Year honors.
COSTA MESA, CA — Cypress College women's swim and dive freshman Chantee Nguyen capped off a historic season with a dominant showing at the 3C2A State Championships, earning two gold medals, State Swimmer of the Year recognition, and the award for best women's individual performance.
Nguyen's standout moment came in the 200 butterfly, where she posted a time of 2:05.99 to claim gold and secure the meet's top individual performance. The swim marked the third time this season she broke her own school record in the event, highlighting a year defined by continuous improvement and elite competition.
Throughout the season, Nguyen consistently rewrote the record books. She initially broke a 10 year school record in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:12.14, then lowered it to 2:07.89 before setting her final mark of 2:05.99 at the State Championships.
In addition to her success in the butterfly, Nguyen set a new school record in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:07.48, surpassing the previous mark by 10 seconds. She also established a new program record in the 100 backstroke at 59.03 and delivered a record breaking performance in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:30.23, surpassing both the school and conference records by five seconds.
Nguyen's dominance extended to the Orange Empire Conference Championships, where she broke conference records in three events: the 200 backstroke, 200 butterfly, and 400 individual medley.
She qualified for the State Championships in all three of her individual events, the 200 butterfly, 200 backstroke, and 400 individual medley, and emerged as one of the top performers in the state.
Nguyen also contributed to a record breaking relay performance, teaming up with Mia Stockwell, Jasmine Liu, and Ivy Olivas in the women's 200 medley relay. The group set a new school record with a time of 1:52.25.
Her remarkable freshman campaign not only established her as one of the premier swimmers in the state, but also set a new standard for Cypress College Athletics.
Nguyen's two gold medals, multiple records, and statewide recognition mark the beginning of what promises to be an outstanding collegiate career.
