Record-Breaking Meet for Chargers
Strong swims from Jasmine Liu, Mia Stockwell, Ivy Olivas, and Joanna Cruz help power the women to a third-place team finish
TORRANCE, CA - Cypress College opened the 2026 women's swim and dive season with a statement at the 5th Annual El Camino 3x Invitational on Feb. 13, racing to a third-place team finish while rewriting the Chargers' record book. Cypress scored 114 points in the combined standings behind Las Positas College (239) and host El Camino College (159.5), fueled by multiple school records and standout performances in the butterfly and breaststroke events.
Freshman Chantee Nguyen delivered one of the meet's most electrifying performances, sweeping the butterfly events and putting the Chargers on the podium in every race she entered. Nguyen captured the women's 50-yard butterfly in 27.67 before exploding in the 100-yard butterfly, winning in 59.89 for a meet record. She then capped her day with a dominant swim in the 200-yard butterfly, touching first in 2:12.14 to add another meet standard and a Cypress school record.
Freshman Jasmine Liu announced herself as a major new force for Cypress, turning the breaststroke events into a breakthrough showcase. Making her collegiate debut, Liu set three Chargers school records in the 50, 100 and 200-yard breaststroke, giving Cypress a powerful new presence through the middle of the lineup. Her strong times and consistent scoring helped stabilize the Chargers in a deep invitational field that featured record-setting swims across nearly every stroke and distance.
Behind Nguyen and Liu, the Chargers gained momentum throughout the day with determined efforts across the lineup. Mia Stockwell excelled, securing 2nd place in the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 31.74 and the 100-yard butterfly with 1:08.99. Stockwell further impressed with a time of 2:28.32 in the 200-yard backstroke, also taking 2nd place. Ivy Olivas and Joanna Cruz showcased their skills, both ranking in the top 15 for the 50-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Stockwell, Liu, Nguyen, and Ivy Olivas clinched 2nd place with a time of 1:57.63.
