Women's Swim and Dive Prepares for State Championships
With a season that saw many records broken, Cypress heads into the state meet with momentum.
COSTA MESA, CA – Cypress College women's swim and dive is headed to the 3C2A State Championships this week at Orange Coast College, as the Chargers prepare to compete against the best athletes in California across both swimming and diving events.
Highlighting the women's side is freshman Chantee Nguyen, who enters the state meet as one of the top contenders in the field. At the OEC Championships, she was named Tri Swimmer of the Meet. Nguyen is seeded first in both the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard butterfly, while also holding the No. 2 seed in the 400-yard IM, positioning her as one of Cypress' strongest championship threats.
Jasmine Liu also enters the meet with strong momentum, qualifying in two events and earning top-five seeds in both. Liu is seeded third in the 100-yard IM and fifth in the 100-yard breaststroke, giving the Chargers another strong scoring opportunity in the pool.
Mia Stockwell adds depth for Cypress with qualifications in both the 100-yard breaststroke, where she is seeded 11th, and the 200-yard backstroke, where she enters as the No. 10 seed.
The Chargers will also be represented in relay competition, qualifying for both the 200-yard medley relay (12th seed) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (16th seed), adding valuable team scoring opportunities throughout the championship meet.
On the diving side, Joanna Cruz earned her spot at state in the 3-meter dive and enters the championship meet seeded 15th overall.
Coach Frisk Driscoll was named Women's Co-Coach of the Year. He coached his team to a top 5 finish at the conference championships.
With multiple top seeds, relay appearances, and strong depth across the roster, Cypress enters the state championships ready to compete for podium finishes and a strong team performance.
