CYPRESS, CA — Cypress men's soccer (14-3-5, 9-2-3 OEC) started postseason play with a disciplined 1–0 victory over Palomar (11-8-3, 9-4-1 PCAC) on Wednesday afternoon.
Alex Gomez Jr. delivered the lone goal of the match in the 42nd minute, shooting the ball on a volley to put Cypress ahead just before halftime. The Chargers controlled the run of play from the opening whistle, outshooting Palomar 24–8 and generating consistent pressure in the attacking third.
Cypress' back line was solid throughout the entire game, allowing limited looks at goal while maintaining composure throughout.
Goalkeeper Demian Baldovinos recorded a clean sheet with four saves, anchoring a Charger defense that conceded just one corner kick all match. He also contributed to the game in ways that don't show up on the box score, such as breaking up Palomar's set pieces and fearlessly stepping up to attackers. Erik Hernandez led Cypress with eight shots, while Issac Morales, Cristiano Flores, and Brandon Procopio all threatened the goal with dangerous attempts.
UP NEXT: The No. 15 Chargers face the No. 2 Oxnard Condors on the road on Saturday, November 22nd at 1:00PM for the 3C2A SoCal Regional Round 2.
