Cypress Upsets Undefeated Saddleback with Last-Minute Touchdown
Chargers defeat the Bobcats 26-20
CYPRESS, CA — Cypress College delivered a statement win on Wednesday night, knocking off previously undefeated Saddleback, 26–20, in a rematch that came down to the final minute.
The Chargers set the tone early, striking for two first-quarter touchdowns to jump out to a 13–0 lead. Cypress capitalized on sustained drives, including a nine-play, 66-yard opening possession, with Mia Cabral contributing on both PAT attempts to give the Chargers early control.
Saddleback responded in the second quarter, cutting into the deficit with a touchdown drive, but Cypress answered quickly. A five-play, 66-yard scoring drive restored momentum for the Chargers, who took a 20–7 lead into halftime.
The third quarter belonged to Saddleback, as the visitors rallied with two touchdowns to even the score at 20–20, setting up a dramatic final period.
With time winding down in the fourth, Cypress put together its most important drive of the night. Marching 46 yards on nine plays, the Chargers found the end zone with just 41 seconds remaining to reclaim the lead for good at 26–20.
Through the air, Cypress leaned heavily on quarterback Maddy Banks, who threw for 203 yards on 17 completions, while Mia Cabral added additional passing production and led the team in rushing. Devoni Ray was a standout playmaker, hauling in 10 receptions for 147 yards and also contributing defensively with a sack. Emma Farias added five catches for 37 yards.
Defensively, Cypress made timely plays, highlighted by an interception from Alisa Kangas and a team effort that limited big plays late in the game.
