Chargers Dominate with 52–0 Shutout Over Cal State Long Beach
Cypress shows strength against their first NCAA opponents.
CYPRESS, CA — The Cypress College women's flag football team (10-3, 0-0 OEC) delivered a commanding performance Tuesday Afternoon, shutting out California State University, Long Beach 52–0 behind explosive offense and a relentless defensive effort.
The Chargers controlled the game from the opening drive and never looked back. Cypress struck first midway through the first quarter with a touchdown followed by a successful two-point conversion run by Mia Cabral to take an early lead.
Cypress continued to apply pressure in the second quarter. A team safety extended the lead before the Chargers quickly capitalized on the ensuing possession, scoring on a 66-yard touchdown drive capped by a two-point conversion pass from Maddy Banks.
The Chargers' momentum carried into the second half as the offense erupted for multiple scoring drives. Cypress added another touchdown early in the third quarter and forced a second safety shortly after, stretching the lead to 25–0. Later in the quarter, the Chargers pieced together a seven-play, 66-yard drive that ended with another touchdown and conversion to push the advantage to 31–0.
Cypress closed the game in dominant fashion in the fourth quarter, scoring four more touchdowns in the final minutes to seal the 52–0 victory.
Offensively, Cypress racked up 347 total yards, including 325 passing yards, while limiting Long Beach to just 109 total yards. Quarterbacks Maddy Banks and Mia Cabral led the aerial attack, combining for 325 passing yards with no interceptions.
Devoni Ray turned in a standout performance with five receptions for 217 yards, while Lelani Lito and Melony Bernabe added multiple receptions to help move the chains throughout the night.
Cypress recorded four interceptions, including two by Alisa Kangas, while Maddy Banks and Michea Wells also picked off passes. Ray anchored the pass rush with an impressive six sacks, helping the Chargers disrupt Long Beach's offense all evening.
