Chargers Beat Golden West in Home Victory, 20-2
Chargers defeat the Rustlers in regular season rematch.
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress flag football (7-2, 0-0 OEC) delivered a strong performance on Thursday afternoon, defeating Golden West (3-3, 0-0 OEC) 20-2 behind a balanced offensive attack and a stifling defensive effort.
The Chargers (20 points on 235 total yards) struck early and never looked back, scoring in three consecutive quarters to secure control of the contest.
Cypress opened the scoring at the 2:30 mark of the first quarter, capping a nine-play, 70-yard drive with a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion pass from Mia Cabral to take a 7-0 lead
The momentum continued in the second quarter when Cabral connected on another scoring strike following a quick one-play, 59-yard drive. The two-point conversion was again successful, extending the Chargers' lead to 14-0. Cypress added one more touchdown in the third quarter on a two-play, 50-yard drive, pushing the advantage to 20-0
Devoni Ray kept the score in check, recording 5 tackles of her own and 1 sack. Even when Ray wasn't directly involved on the defense, she was able to disrupt plays with quick decision making and awareness.
Although the two-point attempt was unsuccessful, the Chargers remained firmly in control.
