Cypress Chargers Women’s Water Polo Prepared to Take on the New Season
Chargers Aim to Build on Last Year’s Regional Run with Experienced Leadership and Fresh Talent
CYPRESS, CA – The Cypress College Women's Water Polo team is back and ready for action as they dive into a new season. The Chargers finished last year in fourth place in the competitive Orange Empire Conference (OEC), posting an overall record of 13-12. Their season included a run to the 3C2A SoCal Regional Quarterfinals, where they fell just short against Saddleback. This year, the Chargers are determined to make another strong push toward the OEC Championships and beyond.
The team proved to be tough competitors on the road last season, going 4-2 away from home. Among the returners, Jillian Van Gemert made a name for herself as a freshman, recording 95 goals in 25 games and earning Second Team All-Conference honors. She finished ranked No. 3 in the OEC in goals and looks to build on that success as a sophomore. Offensively, Cypress showcased strong team chemistry last season, scoring over 300 goals (224 of which came from assists).
UP NEXT: The Chargers open their season at home against Crafton Hills on September 10 at 4:00 p.m.
