CYPRESS, CA - The No. 4 seed Cypress College women's soccer team (15-5-2, 8-4-2 OEC) delivered a great postseason performance on Saturday afternoon, defeating Pasadena City College (15-7-2, 5-1-2 PCC) with a 4–1 victory to advance to the next round of the 3C2A SoCal Regionals.
Cypress opened the scoring in the 19th minute when Peyton Dunbar capitalized on a loose ball and buried an unassisted strike to give the Chargers early momentum. Pasadena briefly equalized right before halftime, but the Chargers responded instantly. Just seconds later, Briselda Tellez regained the lead for Cypress, finishing a well-placed ball from Naomi Lee to send the Chargers into the break up 2–1.
Cypress wasted no time extending their advantage in the second half. Jessica Rosalino Vicente fired home a goal in the 49th minute to make it 3–1, keeping the Chargers firmly in control. The final blow came in the 73rd minute when Joey Duong slotted in a fourth goal, assisted by Tellez, who had a standout performance on both sides of the ball.
Goalkeeper Emily Peñaloza anchored the defense with three saves, helping Cypress fend off Pasadena's 13-shot effort.
With the 4–1 win, Cypress continues its postseason run with momentum after having a first round bye week.
