Cypress Men's Swim & Dive Open Season with Strong Fourth-Place Finish at El Camino 3x Invitational
Record-breaking swims and multiple podium finishes highlight a strong fourth-place team performance
TORRANCE, CA - The Cypress College men's swim team had an outstanding season debut at the 5th Annual El Camino 3x Invitational on Feb. 13, clinching a commendable fourth-place finish in the overall team standings behind Las Positas and host El Camino at El Camino College.
Accumulating 59 points in their inaugural meet, the Chargers asserted themselves as a team to closely follow in the conference competition. In the individual events, Aiden Xavier impressed with a 4th place finish in the 50-yard breaststroke clocking in at 29.13. He continued his success by securing another 4th place in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.78. Noah Brummitt showcased his skill by taking 2nd place in the 50-yard freestyle with a swift 21.81, closely followed by Gio Demuro in 3rd with a time of 22.07. Demuro's exceptional performance continued as he dominated the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 48.78, shattering the previous meet record by nearly a full second. Sean Eoin Tannehill made a mark by breaking the meet record in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:01.07. Luke Edmundson secured a 3rd place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.78. The Chargers witnessed strong performances from Brummitt, Demuro, and Victor Abella in the top 3 positions in the 200-yard freestyle. Edmundson excelled with a 2nd place finish in the 500-yard freestyle, completing it in 5:12.18.
Collectively, the men finished 4th in the meet with 59 points. The highlight for the Cypress men emerged in the butterfly events, with standout sophomore Sean Eoin Tannehill shining by claiming victory in the men's 200-yard butterfly in a record-breaking time of 2:01.07. His exceptional performance not only outshone a competitive field but also set a new standard for the invitational in one of the most challenging events. Tannehill's win not only secured a significant individual triumph for the Chargers but also boosted the men's overall points midway through the meet. Tannehill's record-breaking swim highlighted a strong butterfly group for the Chargers.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will travel to Saddleback College on Friday, February 27 for their first Orange Empire Conference Meet of the season.
