Cypress Golf Sends Two Individuals to State Championships
After their performance at the 3C2A SoCal Regionals, the Chargers see James Luther and Ian Shahwan advance to the final.
VENTURA, CA - The Cypress College men's golf team continued its postseason run with an 8th place finish at the 3C2A SoCal Regionals, held at Olivas Links Golf Course.
The Chargers posted rounds of 312 and 304 for a two-day total of 616, competing against a strong field of Southern California's top California Community College programs. Cypress showed resilience in the second round, shaving eight strokes off its opening score to close the tournament on a high note.
Leading the way for Cypress was James Luther, delivering the team's top performance with rounds of 70 and 74 for a 144 total. Luther's steady play placed him among the top 4 individual competitors in the field, granting him a berth on the 3C2A All-SoCal roster. He is one of two Cypress individuals to advance to the State Championship.
Accompanying him to state is All-OEC First Team's Ian Shahwan, carding a 76 in round 1 and improving to a 74 in round 2 for a total of 150.
Teegan Cole also made a significant jump on day two, improving by 12 strokes with a 75 after opening with an 87 to finish at 162 overall. Ethan Nash followed with a 164 (83-81), while Dino Torres carded a 168 (83-85). Aden Henry competed in the opening round for the Chargers.
UP NEXT: Cypress heads to Silver Rock Golf Course in La Quinta, California to compete at the 3C2A State Championships on Sunday, May 10th. The tee time is set for 7:00AM.
