Chargers Power Past LA Valley
Chargers defeat LA Valley, 7-2
CYPRESS, CA. — Cypress College used a big early offensive surge and strong pitching down the stretch to defeat LA Valley College 7–2 on Tuesday afternoon at Cypress College.
Cypress broke things open in the third inning, plating four runs to take control of the game. The Chargers tallied 15 hits overall, highlighted by a standout performance from John Short, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Ben Keisler provided the biggest swing of the day, launching a home run and driving in three runs while finishing 2-for-4 with two runs scored. His long ball helped pace Cypress' offensive attack and gave the Chargers breathing room early.
Additional contributions came from Tony Martinez, who recorded two hits and two RBIs, and Tyler Smith, who added two hits and scored once as Cypress consistently pressured LA Valley pitching.
On the mound, Cayden Bonura earned the win for Cypress, tossing 5.1 innings while allowing two runs (one earned) and striking out three. Reliever Rudy Carlos shut the door over the final 3.2 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out four to secure the victory.
LA Valley managed seven hits in the contest and scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not overcome Cypress' early offensive burst.
