Cypress Beach Volleyball Splits Matches
The Chargers come out with a 4-1 victory over Riverside.
CYPRESS, CA - Cypress beach volleyball (3-3, 1-0 OEC) opened the day with a strong performance against Riverside (1-11, 0-1 OEC), winning four of five courts in a competitive matchup. At the top flight, Addison Riddle and Keilyn Flores battled back after dropping the first set to claim a three-set victory, 21-23, 21-19, 15-8, setting the tone for the Chargers.
The pair of Dahlia Gonzalez and Faith Martin showed resilience in a tightly contested match, bouncing back after a first-set loss to win 17-21, 21-17, 17-15. Lola Sanchez and Adaeze Handy delivered another clutch comeback, rallying for a 22-24, 21-19, 17-15 win in one of the most competitive matches of the dual.
The Chargers closed out the team victory at No. 5, where Lauren Carrillo and Maleah Diaz powered through a three-set battle, 19-21, 23-21, 15-8.
Cypress' only loss came when Genesis Castolo and Rachel Joung pushed the match to three sets before narrowly falling 14-21, 21-18, 12-15.
In the final dual of the day, Cypress faced a strong Palomar lineup and fell 4-1
The Chargers' lone victory came from the duo of Genesis Castolo and Rachel Joung, who rebounded from their earlier loss to earn a hard-fought 12-21, 21-17, 15-13 win.
Lauren Carrillo and Maleah Diaz forced a third set after splitting the first two, narrowly dropping the match 21-14, 14-21, 15-17 in a tight finish.
UP NEXT: The Chargers head over to Rosie's Dog Beach to face the Golden West Rustlers and the Irvine Valley Lasers in a doubleheader. The first matchup will begin at 10:00AM
