Chargers Battle in OEC Pairs Championships
Two Pairs Advance to Friday
IRVINE, CA – The Cypress Chargers Beach Volleyball squad put up a strong showing at the OEC Pairs Championships on Wednesday, with several standout efforts and two pairs advancing to Friday's final day of competition.
The duos of Hailey Church/Hannah Higuera and Zoe Ziegler/Keilyn Flores headlined the day. After a strong start with a first-round win, Hailey and Hannah took Santiago Canyon's No. 1 pair to the wire in a thrilling three-set battle. Despite falling behind 4-10 early in the opening set, the Chargers rallied to steal it 25-23. They dropped the second set and narrowly lost the third, 12-15, in a gritty performance.
Meanwhile, Amanda Kalpakoff and Jasmine Kastner nearly pulled off a major upset over SCC's No. 2 pair. Trailing 8-14 in the final set, the pair stormed back to tie it up and earned two match points, before narrowly falling 16-18 in a heartbreaking finish.
Audrey Perez and Sydney Jackson also showed resilience in a tough matchup against Golden West's top pair, battling hard but ultimately falling short.
UP NEXT: The Chargers will be back on the sand Friday at 10 a.m. at Irvine Valley College, with both Hailey/Hannah and Zoe/Keilyn continuing their quest in the OEC.
