Chargers Sweep the Competition @ Irvine Valley College
Chargers Add Two More Conference Wins
IRVINE, CA – The Cypress College Women's Beach Volleyball team took on Fullerton College and Saddleback College on Friday at Irvine Valley College. The Chargers swept the competition going a perfect 2-0 against their conference opponents. After the dominant performances, the Chargers move to a 9-4 OEC record and 12-8 overall on the season.
In the opening match against Fullerton, Cypress swept the sets in all pairs that played.
Against Saddleback College, the Chargers continued their stellar performances, winning all 5 sets again. The 1 pair took an early lead and it helped them close out the first set. Saddleback regrouped and won set 2, sending the match to a tiebreak. Zoe Zeigler and Keilyn Flores adjusted their strategy well and came out victorious 15-12. On the 2 pair Hailey Church and Hannah Higuera faced a very physical opponent who served and attacked aggressively. Cypress lost a close contested first set and led throughout the second until the very end when Saddleback served for the match at 20-19. Cypress showed a lot of heart and won the next 3 points in a row, forcing the match to a tiebreaker. Hailey and Hannah were relentless in the match and won easily 15-5. The battle of the 3 pairs went in a similar fashion. Kaitlyn Casino and Audrey Perez found themselves a set down and it took a lot of strategic discipline, skill, and high energy demeanor to fight back and win in 3 sets 15-10 to complete the team sweep.
UP NEXT: The Chargers look to improve their overall record to 13-8 when travel to Santa Ana College on Friday, April 18th.
