Women's Tennis kicks off the 2020 season
Women’s tennis began their season this week with an away match vs. Glendale where they lost, 8-1. They also hosted their home opener on Thursday and fell in a competitive effort to El Camino, 6-3.
Cypress, CA- Women's tennis kicked off their season this week with an away match vs. Glendale where they lost, 8-1. They also hosted their home opener on Thursday and fell in a competitive effort to El Camino, 6-3.
The Lady Chargers are a very young tennis squad who have shown a lot of fight through their first two matches. Coach Harris is focused on building a culture around the tennis program that includes hard work, good spirit, and teamwork.
Cypress traveled to Glendale College to open their season on Tuesday afternoon. Elizabeth Rodriguez and Gabrielle Le teamed up in the doubles match to score Cypress their first point of the season. Mika Carreon competed in a tough battle at the singles #6 spot and gave the Chargers momentum moving forward.
The Lady Chargers came prepared in their home opener and were motivated to improve their effort. Kaylene Fabros and Julie Xiong showed great team chemistry and won their first doubles match as partners. Xiong competed in her first collegiate match on Thursday and sparked the team with her strong effort and execution. She pulled out her first singles match to secure another point for Cypress.
Coach Harris said, "Although we did not win the match, we had many "little victories" in the process of improving our performance. I am proud of how we improved from our first match vs Glendale and I know our ladies are motivated to keep getting better every day."
Up Next: The Chargers will travel to Cerritos and take on the Falcons next Thursday, February 6th. Doubles matches will begin at 2:00PM.
