Cypress Softball Edges Out San Diego Mesa in Double Header
CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress Chargers (3-0) defeated the San Diego Mesa Olympians (4-2) in their first double header of the season, 6-1 and 9-1.

CYPRESS, CA - The Cypress Chargers (3-0) defeated the San Diego Mesa Olympians (4-2) in their first double header of the season, 6-1 and 9-1.
Game 1
Cypress wasted no time in asserting their dominance with a run scored in the first inning. A wild pitch allowed Mikala Jacobsen to cross the plate, and gave Cypress an early 1-0 lead.
The fourth inning proved to be the turning point of the game, as Cypress capitalized on San Diego Mesa's defensive miscues. Jazzy Lopez's single drove in two runs, while Kaitlyn Reynolds added an RBI double. By the end of the inning, Cypress had amassed a commanding 5-0 lead.
San Diego Mesa managed to break through the Chargers defense in the sixth inning. However, it was not enough to mount a comeback against the Chargers strong pitching.
Cypress sealed the victory in the sixth inning when Jacobsen's sacrifice fly brought Lopez home and extended their lead to 6-1. The Olympians were unable to mount a comeback in the remaining innings, which resulted in a decisive win for Cypress.
Game 2
The game started off with Cypress taking an early lead in the first inning. Kaitlyn Reynolds scored the first run of the game after Mikala Jacobsen reached first base on an error by San Diego Mesa's second baseman. The Olympians responded in the second inning by tying the game at 1-1.
However, Cypress quickly regained control in the second inning. Jaylene Duarte hit a double, which brought in Nanea Kyle home and gave Cypress a 2-1 lead. Reynolds followed with a single that allowed Jacobsen to reach third and Duarte to score. Julia Doan then hit a single, and brought in Reynolds home to extend the Chargers lead 4-1.
Cypress continued to dominate in the third inning, scoring five more runs. Duarte hit another single, and brought Kyle home. Reynolds walked, which allowed Jacobsen to advance to second and Duarte to reach third. Doan then hit another single, that sent Reynolds across home plate and advanced Jacobsen to third. Makayla Motis grounded out, but Jacobsen scored, and Doan advanced to second. Clarisse Magdaleno then scored on a wild pitch, and the game ended in a fifth inning mercy, 9-1 in favor of Cypress.
UP NEXT: Cypress will be back on the diamond Tuesday, February 6 to host the Cerritos College Falcons. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
