Rachel Burney Earns Charger of the Week (March 2- March 8)
Freshman beach volleyball standout, Rachel Burney, earned her first Charger of the Week Award presented by The Crab Shack during Wednesday's practice. Burney is the first beach volleyball player to win the award this season.
CYPRESS, CA- Freshman beach volleyball standout, Rachel Burney, earned her first Charger of the Week Award presented by The Crab Shack during Wednesday's practice. Burney is the first beach volleyball player to win the award this season.
The freshman setter had a fantastic weekend in her four matches against Fullerton, Grossmont, El Camino, and MiraCosta. The Los Alamitos alum, went 4-0 in her matches and showed an amazing effort through out the weeked. Coach Nancy Welliver declared Burney one of the hardest workers on the team and is impressed by her ability to make all of her match partners better. The Charger's swept Fullerton, 5-0, in their first OEC match of the year on Friday. In their second match on Friday they hosted the defending State Champion Grossmont Griffins. Cypress swept the Griffins as well and Burney showcased a dominant performance winning her match in two sets 21-8 and 21-16. On Saturday afternoon, Cypress faced El Camino and MiraCosta. The Chargers fell to El Camino, 3-2, but bounced back to beat MiraCosta 4-1.
